Jean Giraudoux papers, 1908-1958 (bulk 1939-1943).

Manuscripts, correspondence, and biographical and bibliographical materials of French author Jean Giraudoux. Included are manuscripts and galley proofs of 9 of his works: Entree a Saverne, La Folle de Chaillot, L'Apollon de Bellac, La Duchesse de Langeais, Sodome et Gomorrhe, Intermezzo, Pour Lucréce, Film, Amica America; a holograph copy by Giraudoux of Vigny's Maison du Berger; also typescripts of several war-time speeches and the transcript of an interview of Giraudoux by Isabelle Montérou (1939). The correspondence consists of 240 letters from Giraudoux to Montérou (1939-1943); 4 letters to Laurent LeSage; 4 letters to Robert Emile-Paul; and several letters to and from other correspondents. The biographical and bibliographical materials include letters about Giraudoux to LeSage from Serge Groussard, André Maurois, Paul Morand, and Franz Toussaint; a manuscript describing Giraudoux's last years by LeSage and Lucie Heymann; an interview with Heymann; assorted newspaper clippings and printed matter; and LeSage's bibliography, L'Oeuvre de Jean Giraudoux (1958). Finally, the collection also contains photographs of Giraudoux and of productions of Anges du péchés, and Sodome et Gomorrhe.
